It has been a while! Remember, God was silent for 400 years between the Old and New Testaments! Sometimes it’s OK to be quiet.
I am learning that actually. Think of all the stories regarding Jesus. He spoke to His disciples, He taught crowds and small groups, yes, but over and over we are told that He went off by himself to speak with the Father. Mark 1.35 35 And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.” He found time to be with the Father. If you think you can do life without time with the Lord, maybe you could just trust the example Jesus showed us.
I have lived a busy life. Often, I have been accused of filling every second of every day with tasks, appointments, or chores. I admit my guilt, whether intentional or unconscious. It’s a great way of deflecting what we want to avoid thinking about.
So, the example we are given by Jesus … quiet, solitary time with our heavenly Father. It’s important. I’m going through a difficult season. Lots of things to think about. Lots of reasons to get in my head. But I’m learning. I am so grateful that God is not done with me yet! Philippians 1.6 “6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” I am still a work in progress.
Why did Jesus spend time with His Father … why should we?
· When there was a big task ahead. Making sure He heard from the Father first. Do you need help and support in times when life feels overwhelming? I certainly do.
· When He was tired. When He needed to be re-filled, refreshed. (I need this every day, how about you?)
· When He was grieving, in pain, and in times of emotional support. How do people who don’t know Jesus get through each day?
· A Big decision. Jesus checked in not just when there was a big task. When I have a decision (big or small), I want the wisdom and discernment I can only get from God.
· Focused Prayer. I am praying a lot more these days. We all should be. Find some time -a quiet time and place – check in with the one who is always there, who will always listen, and will never let you down. You will be glad you did.
Trusting God … in every way, every day.
